1. Detective Pikachu:
Detective Pikachu is an urban fantasy film that was released on May 3, 2019, and May 10, 2019, in Japan and the US, respectively. This movie was directed by Rob Letterman and its pictures produced by Legendary Pictures in association with Toho. Detective Pikachu became the second-highest-grossing video game film adaptation, given its worldwide gross of about $431 million.
On the other hand, this movie adapts the game Detective Pikachu which was releas ed in February 2016. The game's developer is Creatures, Inc, a Japanese video game developer company, and its publisher is Nintendo, a Japanese consumer electronics company. Detective Pikachu was developed for the Nintendo 3DS platform. The game requires a player to act like Tim Goodman and partner with a detective Pikachu to solve cases in a city called, Ryme City.
2. Resident Evil:
Resident Evil is an action horror film that was released on March 21, 2002, in Germany. The movie was written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, and it starred actors including Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, amongst others. It is, however, worth noting that Resident Evil and its sequels (Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016), etc.) borrowed elements from the Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 video games.
These games were first developed and published by Japanese video game developer Capcom in 1996. They were originally designed for the PlayStation devices including the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Now, they can be run on Windows, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo DS platforms. Resident Evil game focuses on how Leon S. Kennedy, a police officer, and Claire Redfield, a college student fight an outbreak that transformed an entire city into deadly zombies.
3. Silent Hill:
Silent Hill is a psychological horror film that was released on April 21, 2006. The movie was directed by Christophe Gans and produced by Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody. Silent hill is an adaptation of the video game Silent hill which was launched in 1999 in North America and Europe.
The original game publisher of Silent Hill is Konami, a Japanese video game company, and the game was intended for PlayStation. Also, the game adopts a third-person view, and it offers a real-time rendering of 3D environments. Here, it tells a story of Harry Mason as he searches for his missing adopted daughter in a town called Silent Hill.
4. Assassin's Creed:
Another good video game movie is Assasin's creed, an action movie that was released on December 13, 2016, in New York City. This action movie was directed by Justin Kurzel and written by Adam Cooper, Michael Lesslie, and Bill Collage. Like the game, this movie takes place in the same universe, however, it adds a unique feature that extends the series' mythology.
The game, in question, was developed by Canada-based video company Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. Assasin's creed can be run on platforms including XBOXONE, PS4, and PC. There are currently different series of the game such as Assassin's Creed® Odyssey, Assassin's Creed® III Remastered, Assassin’s Creed® Rogue, etc.
5. Tomb Raider:
Tomb Raider is an action-adventure film, and it was released on March 2, 2018, in Berlin. The movie was directed by Roar Uthaug and Produced by Graham King. Its lead actor is Alicia Vikander who acts as Lara Croft and embarks on a journey to unravel the mystery behind her father's disappearance.
Also, Tomb Raider is based on a 2013 video game that bears the same name. This action game was designed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. While this game may have released at first for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it can now be run on OS X, Linux, and the Shield TV.
Rampage is a science fiction monster film released on April 4, 2018, in Microsoft Theatre. The movie was directed by Brad Peyton and produced by Brad Peyton, Beau Flynn, John Rickard, and Hiram Garcia. It features an albino gorilla whose size grew significantly after a rogue experiment gone wrong.
What's similar to this movie, is its adoption of the name and characters in the video game Rampage. The latter was first released in 1986 and there were later versions until 2018. Also, it was released by Midway and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for different consoles. Some of these platforms include Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Sega Saturn, etc.
7. DOA: Dead or Alive:
DOA: Dead or Alive is a martial arts action film released on September 7, 2006. This movie was directed by Corey Yuen and written by J. F. Lawton, Adam Gross, and Seth Gross. The movie centers on four female fighters who were once rivals but collaborate to discover a skeleton in the tournament's organizers' closet.
Dead or Alive is based on a fighting game from Tecmo, a Japanese video game company. Released in 1996, the game was adapted for platforms including Arcade, Sega Saturn, and the PlayStation. What made this game popular in its time, is its fighting system and advanced graphics. There were latter several series and spinoffs of the game including Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
