In a world where flagship phones dominate the front pages of newspapers and social media, it's hard to get some information on the other side of the spectrum.
Reading about the latest advances in technology, folding phones, and devices with screens that cover their whole body is great; but truth be told, sometimes we just need a smartphone that works, and we don't have any money. You could buy a "dumb phone" or an used device, but you might also want a new gadget without years of use and abuse.
If so, this list is for you. Here are the best smartphones you can buy for less than $100 and won't let you down —if you know how to set your expectations right:
Cheap Smartphone #1: UMIDIGI A3 For Good Connectivity And Durability
If you want a good phone for a low price, the first thing you should know is that in most of the time, the brand represents a big part of a product's price (that's why you pay one thousand bucks for an Apple stand) Umidigi doesn't have that problem.
This Asian brand has been making a name for itself in the budget phone market for a long time, and its A3 model has an excellent price to quality ratio.
For less than $80 you can buy a smartphone with Android 9.0, expandable memory, dual nano sim with 4G VoLTE technology, dual camera, and 3300 and a 1.5 GHz quadcore processor.
Cheap Smartphone #1: LG G Vista 2 For Nice Pictures and a Traditional Look
If you ever owned or used the LG G4, this smartphone will feel familiar.
Despite being in the market for about four years now, the specifications of the Vista 2 do not yet make it as obsolete as we might think. 5.7-inch 1080p LCD screen, a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear-facing camera sensor, and 3000mAh battery are an excellent package for those 100 dollars it currently costs.
In addition, the photos are pretty good for the price, even by today's standards and have a built-in stylus, just in case you like it...
Cheap Smartphone #1: Moto G4 Play If You Want The Cheapest of the Cheapest
This phone doesn't stand out at anything... Except for the price: For less than $50, you'd be taking a new smartphone with you, which in itself is worth enough.
Its design is boring, plastic, with big notches and a small screen; however, it is ideal for those who want to use a smartphone for basic activities: calling, sending messages, connecting to social networks, watching videos on Youtube, etc.
It's an excellent option to have in the car in case of an emergency, or as a gift for seniors who are not very familiar with the technology.
You can hardly get a new and "usable" smartphone at a lower price.
Special Mention: Xiaomi Redmi 6A: The One-Size-Fits-All
This is probable the best overall phone you can buy. It is pretty, it is snappy, it takes nice pictures, and it will do almost anything you need...
Most of the cheap phones feel cheap but not this one. This model is on the cheapest side of Xiaomi's budget phones, but it feels way better than a lot of other more expensive alternatives.
Give this phone to anyone and nobody will guess its price. It is a very nice surprice, and you cannot go wrong with this one
However, for an additional $10 you can get a "maxed out" version and a Xiaomi Mi Play with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage for $128 —But those are not sub-100 dollars ;)
